The Team

Make Goals Not War is run by a dedicated team of volunteers, all of whom provide their time, skills, and support to achieve the organization's mission to create a better and more peaceful world.

Matías E. Margulis
founder and executive director
A writer and researcher on international trade, food security, and poverty issues and a former trade policy adviser and delegate to the World Trade Organization, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and Food Aid Convention, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience on international affairs to Make Goals Not War.

Kristen Hopewell
director
Kristen is a doctoral candidate in sociology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She does research and writes on issues related to international political economy, globalization, and social theory. She has also worked extensively with government and non-profit organizations in Canada and brings this expertise with her to the Make Goals Not War team.

Raúl Peña
designer
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Raúl studied architecture at the Los Andes University and graphic design at Eastern Michigan University. His work encompasses a variety of mediums and approaches yet is always inventive and powerful. Raúl's inimitable creative vision is evident in all aspects of Make Goals Not War and he created this Web site.

Eugene Weis
film producer and editor
Eugene is another creative heart of Make Goals Not War. He is an emerging filmmaker/producer based in Toronto, Canada. He was educated at Ryerson University's prestigious film program and now heads up iDREAM pictures.

Ron Schur
sound engineer
Ron recieved his Honours Degree in Production/Engineering from the Harris Institute for the Arts in 2001. He apprenticed under Nick Blagona and has worked in such notable studios such as Phase One and Metalworks studios. He has been involved in the recordings of artists such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Men With Babies, producer Jay Joyce and Shaye.

Jessica Marion Barr

Jessica is an editor and visual artist. She has also worked as an English teacher, most notably in Vientiane, Laos. September 2007 will see Jessica leaving her current job as a Web-based writer and editor to pursue graduate studies at McMaster University's Institute on Globalization and the Human Condition.

Tim Hecker
Internationally acclaimed Montreal-based producer and sound artist focused on exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody. 

Joseph Debenedictis
Joseph is an emerging Toronto-based rock n’ roll performer. His song “Feel the game” captures the optimism and spirit of the World Cup.
